Church Pragmatism

"For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth..." 1 Timothy 4: 3-4

Hey, if it works...

This video is funny because it seems over-the-top, but sadly, it's very accurate. Untold scores of people are sacrificing biblical, exegetical preaching and Christ-centered services for feel-good, self-help drivel and mindless entertainment. If you computer has sound, turn it on when watching this video.

Great video but be careful not to equate big with compromise. I happen to be a part of a big church but I know for a fact that the main focus of our church is to evangelize the world through missions. Every member is challenged to be a witness on the mission field, rather it is at work or in another country. With all that said, I do believe that there is a trend in American churches to water down the Gospel in favor of big numbers. Thanks for sharing with us the insight given to you by the Holy Spirit.

Great point. Thank you for that caution. The impression I got from the video is not that big equals bad, but rather that worldly appearance and methods are ungodly. Many large churches may be as obedient as they know how to be. But you hit the nail on the head regarding what the church should avoid at all costs: compromise. May God save us from the blasphemy of flesh pleasing, man-glorifying churches.
